Dwayne De Rosario Trade, If It’s An April Fools Joke, Sure Is An Elaborate One

If you haven’t heard, there’s a rumor floating around that Toronto FC are trading Dwayne De Rosario to the New York Red Bulls for Tony Tchani and Danleigh Borman. When I first heard the rumor, I thought “That’s the lamest April Fools joke I’ve ever heard.” So did Ben Rycroft of Canadian Soccer News. But, thanks to a series of tweets by Rycroft and other people that generally know what they’re talking about, this rumor seems more like a real thing and less like a really lame April Fools joke.

I still won’t believe it until I see De Rosario holding a Red Bulls shirt after midnight, tonight. But if this is a joke with no basis in reality, it sure is a seriously elaborate hoax with a lot of people refusing to debunk it. It seems like, if this was complete BS, someone in the know would have told us by now. Everyone is either silent or acting like it’s for real.

At the moment, I still feel like this is a hoax, but it’s a great hoax because it has normally skeptical people thinking “wait…this might not be a hoax.” Well played either way, DeRo rumor spreaders.

If this is real TFC are stupid for doing it today.
