Vancouver Whitecaps Sign Attacker Davide Chiumiento

To the surprise of no one, Vancouver Whitecaps have signed Davide Chiumiento, a talented Swiss international attacker who has been with the team for quite some time. Chiumiento played five games for Vancouver in the USSF D2 pro league last season and has been in preseason camp with the team prior to signing. Chiumiento can play as either an attacking midfielder or as a second striker.

Chiumiento had a great season last year with FC Luzern in Switzerland and has had a fantastic preseason camp by all accounts. His combination of skill, pace, and intelligence has been a pleasant surprise, though not too much of a surprise, and he looks locked into a second striker role behind Eric Hassli in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, depending on who you ask. The skills of these players should compliment each other very well, and based on his preseason form, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Chiumiento come out of the gates guns blazing this season in MLS.
