New England Revolution Sign 18 Year Old Nigerian Midfielder Michael Augustine

In a bit of a surprise move, the New England Revolution have dug deep into their scouting notes to sign a player who is seriously off the map. The Revs and Steve Nicol are notorious for their deep scouting of African players who might be flying under the radar for other clubs, and their policy might have netted them a young star. According to a press release put out by the club, the Revs have signed 18 year old Nigerian midfielder Michael Augustine.

Based on the fact that Augustine has scored 18 goals in his time with Nigerian club FCT Abuja, our best guess is that Augustine projects as an attacking midfielder. However, it’s not like I’ve got extensive scouting tape on the kid. If he pans out, he’s going to be a serious diamond in the rough find for the Revs, and whoever did the scouting on this one might deserve a raise. He’s described as an athletic player with great pace by Michael Burns, Vice President of Player Personnel for the Revs. It will be interesting to see if he can net any playing time for himself this season.
