MLS Rumor Mill: Sporting Kansas City About To Sign Defender Aaron Galindo
I talked to my buddy Andy Edwards over at The Daily Wiz about this last night, but since he’s the dude who tipped me off on the story, I figured I’d let him post it up first before I let the fine readers of The Allocation Order know about this story. As we all know, Sporting Kansas City’s defense has been woeful this year, and they’re in serious need of help in defense. Thankfully, it looks like they might have found a solution to their defensive woes in Mexican international central defender Aaron Galindo.
Galindo is currently out of contract after being released by Chivas Guadalajara in 2010. Incredibly, the decision to axe Galindo was made just a year after he was purchased from Eintracht Frankfurt for $2m. Galindo signed a four-year contract, and was released when he still had $6m remaining on his contract for unknown reasons, though it’s believed to be some combination of fitness problems and financial concerns. Obviously, cutting a player without buying him out, then not paying him is a bad way to deal with financial concerns. Currently, his lawyer is working out a settlement with Chivas.
That settlement might mean that Galindo is willing to play for less than DP money, which would be a major coup for the Sporks. He’s a very good, mobile central defender when totally fit, and he’d be a fantastic fit in KC. If the rumors are true and Galindo is both fit and about to sign for less than DP money, it’s a fantastic fit for the team.
I still think the name “Sporting Kansas City” is dumb, but in literally every other department, their ownership group has gotten it absolutely right so far.
Once again, hat tip to Andy over at The Daily Wiz.
Sporks!! I like that! I hope thr rumor is true, and I hope he plays to his potential.
