San Jose Earthquakes Acquire Attacker Simon Dawkins

The San Jose Earthquakes have beefed up their roster a bit and added some attacking flair, signing attacking midfielder Simon Dawkins on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Dawkins has been training with the Earthquakes for an extended period of time, but just had his contract terms finalized yesterday.

Dawkins’ story is very similar to Caleb Folan, a striker signed by the Colorado Rapids yesterday. He’s an extremely talented player, possibly English Premier League level talent, but numerous injuries have seriously set back his career. Dawkins was reportedly very impressive when he played for Leyton Orient in League One, but that was almost two years ago. Tottenham Hotspur had released him not too long after that loan due to his nagging injuries, but they re-signed him to a reserve contract this fall. Apparently, Dawkins has re-gained fitness through training with the team and he’s ready to play professional football again. Hopefully, in this new stage in his career, Dawkins can actually stay healthy.
