New England Revolution Select Benny Feilhaber

The question that everyone has been asking for the past week seems to finally have an answer. Benny Feilhaber has been selected by the New England Revolution with the third pick in the allocation order after both Chivas USA and the Philadelphia Union passed. Feilhaber joins the MLS after spending his whole professional career in Europe, the last three seasons in Denmark. He chose to come to the US after AGF Aarhus were relegated.

Earlier today Chivas USA passed on adding the 26-year-old central midfielder citing concerns about salary flexibility. Philadelphia had the second pick, but it would appear that they too have now passed. New England and coach Steve Nicol appear to have jumped at the chance to sign Feilhaber, but rumors are still circulating about a possible trade to the Houston Dynamo.

Given the early season negotiations over Dwayne DeRosario that the club allegedly had with Toronto FC a trade of this magnitude isn’t out of the question namely because it seems Houston has some trade chips available and can absorb Feilhaber’s salary. Nothing is official yet though, so for now we all have to just wait and see.
